“In the Bright Future, the environmental rampage will have ended, amnesty will be given to all those who return to their senses, and it will be said, ‘We are not free yet, but we are on our way!'”

On an asterism situated between two constellations in a universe not far from this one, a motley assortment of well-meaning but ineffectual people— who have been psychically kidnapped— train and prepare for the Bright Future, an almost-utopia they will eventually be deployed to enact back on planet Earth.

The People’s Republic of Valerie is part boot-camp space-travel memoir, part how-to manual for the community to construct a paradise— even if only in their own minds.

Kosmas’s work was last seen at On the Boards in 2014 with her critically acclaimed bi-lingual performance duet, There There, called “a language-drenched resonant knock-out” by the New York Times.

Kristen Kosmas is a writer and performer. She has had new works commissioned by On the Boards, the Chocolate Factory, PS 122, Dixon Place, and New City Theater, among others. Her plays and performance texts have been published by Ugly Duckling Presse, 53rd State Press, and PLAY A Journal of Plays. She is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Whitman College and a current member of New Dramatists in New York City.

FUNDRAISING GOAL
The total budget for this work is $40,250. Almost 90% of the total budget is allocated to paying artists. I am hoping to raise $9,250 here through friends, family, and avid supporters to supplement resources already committed by On the Boards and several other fundraising endeavors I have in the works. Thank you so much for anything you can contribute.
